Cyberabad police detect the dump belonging to CPI(Maoist)

HYDERABAD: The Cyberabad police on Tuesday unearthed an arms dump belonging to CPI (Maoist) in a forest area at Chittapur village in Ibrahimpatnam, which is 30 km away from the State capital.

Four quintals of gelatine sticks, six loaded claymore mines, eight empty claymore mines, two hand grenades, 100 electrical detonators and wires, 33 live SLR rounds and 19 live .303 rifle rounds were found in drums at three places in the forest. Literature and some cash were also recovered from the spot.

Ibrahimpatnam Inspector K. Kistaiah said two special police parties had been combing the area for the last few weeks with landmine detection equipment and sniffer dogs.

Finally, the police succeeded in discovering the dump near a huge hillock at Chittapur Kancha. A mobile phone and dragon light that were snatched from the two police constables who were patrolling the area at Chittapur a fortnight ago were also recovered from the spot.

A police official said that the dump could belong to the Rachakonda squad of the CPI (Maoist) and added that the combing operations were part of the tactical counter-offensive strategy to prevent the Maoists from targeting elected representatives.
