RIAD to wean youth away from Naxals: Purushottama Rao

GUNTUR: A comprehensive plan to initiate developmental activities in the Naxal-infested areas in the State with an outlay of Rs 10,000 crore would soon be put in place, chairman of Remote Interior Area Development project (RIAD) T Puroshottama Rao has said.

Speaking at a review meeting held here this morning, he said that the State Government has prepared a comprehensive plan to develop Naxal-infested regions as part of its strategy to wean away the youth from Naxalism.

The RIAD project was being implemented on a pilot basis in 18 districts and would address issues relating to eradication of poverty, provision of drinking water, improving education and medical facilities.

The project would be completed in three years, Purushottama Rao told the media persons.

A senior IAS officer would head the committee to oversee the implementation of the RIAD project. District collector G Jaya Lakshmi, joint collector Rahul Bojja and Zilla Parishad Chairperson Kuchipudi Vijaya were present.
